VACAVILLE — The Samantics, a nonprofit vocal group, is bringing Victor Herbert’s “The Captive” to the stage.
Herbert was 32 when he wrote the epic work that was first performed in September 1891 at the Worcester, Mass. festival. Herbert served there as associate conductor.
It was published for public performance in 1915 but has rarely been performed in public, said a release from the Samantics.
The first of three shows is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre, 1010 Ulatis Drive. “The Captive” will also be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at First United Methodist Church, 2100 J St., Sacramento, and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 2837 Claremont Blvd., Berkeley.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.
