Hansel and Gretel hunt witches on the big screen

FAIRFIELD — Abraham Lincoln hunted vampires. Now, it’s Hansel and Gretel’s turn at the box office. Their target: witches.

Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the siblings in “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.” Now, as adults, they are determined to hunt down and destroy witches. The film is rated R.

An imaginary drug, known as soy sauce on the street, is the focus of “John Died at the End,” which features Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown. It’s rated R.

Rob Lowe plays a political strategist juggling three clients in “Knife Fight.” Carrie-Anne Moss also stars. The drama is not rated.

“Movie 43” is a comedy with a cast that includes Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman and Kate Winslet. It’s rated R and directed by Peter Farrelly.

Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez star in “Parker,” about a professional thief who is double crossed and plans revenge. It’s rated R.

Opening in limited release are:

  • “Resolution,” about two friends who confront personal demons, the consequences of past actions and forces beyond their control. It’s not rated.
  • “Happy People: A Year in the Taiga,” which stars Werner Herzog, who also directs the film. It’s about the indigenous people who live in a village on the river Yenisei. The documentary is not rated.
  • “Tabu,” in which two elderly women search for the man their recently deceased friend had an affair with in her youth. It’s not rated.
  • “Yossi,” the sequel to “Yossi & Jagger.” It’s been 10 years since Yossi lost his love Jagger. Now he meets someone who reignites that spark. It’s not rated.
  • “Noobz” features Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, and is a comedy about a cyberbowl video game championship. It’s not rated.
