FAIRFIELD — Action, adventure and drama tip the movie screens this week as Russell Crowe and Arnold Schwarzenegger bring movies designed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Crowe stars in “Noah,” about a man chosen by God for a rescue mission before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world. The movie also stars Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. It is rated PG-13.

Schwarzenegger stars in “Sabotage. This movie has members of a Drug Enforcement Agency task force being taken down one after another after they rob a drug cartel safe house. Also in the movie are Sam Worthington and Terrence Howard. It’s rated R.

“Cesar Chavez” is a biography about the civil rights activist and labor organizer who galvanized the farmworkers and co-founded the United Farm Workers organization. The movie stars Michael Pena, America Ferrera and Rosario Dawson. It is rated PG-13.

Another action flick, “The Raid 2,” gives moviegoers some thrills as the main character, Rama, goes undercover with some Jakarta thugs and plans to bring down the syndicate as well as uncover corruption in the police department. Stars include Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Arifin Putra. The move is rated R.

“Breathe In” stars Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Mackenzie Davis in a movie that brings more drama and a little bit of romance to the screen. A foreign exchange student arrives in upstate New York and changes the lives of her host family forever.

A documentary rounds out the movies opening nationally Friday.

“Mistaken for Strangers” is about Tom Berninger, who chronicled time spent on the road as a tour crew member for the group The National. The rock ‘n roll band is fronted by Berninger’s brother, Matt Berninger. The movie is unrated and offered in limited engagements.

Also opening Friday but with limited engagements are “Monster High: Frights, Camera, Action,” “Hide Your Smiling Faces,” “Boys of Abu Ghraib” and “Refuge.”
