VACAVILLE — Down to six members, the Vacaville School Board will discuss how to fill a vacancy during Thursday’s regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. at the Educational Services Center, 401 Nut Tree Road.
Board president David McCallum said Trustee Larry Mazzuca handed in his resignation several weeks ago, effective Monday.
Mazzuca moved to Nevada City, meaning the remaining board members must decide how to replace him.
McCallum said the board has a couple of options to consider. One is to conduct a special election to fill the remainder of Mazzuca’s term, which isn’t up until 2016. The other is to appoint someone to the spot until the next regular school board election, which would occur in 2014.
Once the course of action is determined, the board will discuss the timeline for filling the vacancy.
Also on the agenda Thursday is a budget update from district Chief Business Officer Kari Sousa concerning the implementation of the new Local Control Funding Formula, which determines how much money the district will get from the state for the 2013-14 budget year.
The school year began July 1 for budget purposes.
