VACAVILLE — Crystal Middle School student artist Joelle Wiley was pretty pleased with her first public showing.
The young woman’s creation, London Kiss, was one of a dozen works from Crystal students that draw compliments from admirers when the 22nd annual Student Art Show at the Vacaville Art Gallery opened to the public Sunday.
“It’s not like the usual,” Wiley said of her first exhibition outside of school walls. “It is all pretty breathtaking. It is something I have wanted to do for some time.”
While there were fewer students exhibiting their works compared to last year, there were more schools represented. Students from 12 Solano County schools were represented at the show, including Vallejo High School, which entered the art show for the first time “and we are pretty excited about that,” Vacaville Art Gallery Manager Susan White said.
Lenore Hubal, one of the judges and a teacher from Hemlock Elementary School, said she was pleased with what she saw from the students.
“I was very impressed,” Hubal said. “There is a lot of talent here. This is a show that has to be seen.”
Students had about 300 pieces of art on display at the opening of the show, ranging from paintings and drawings to ceramics and photography. The show runs through April 20. The Vacaville Art Gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. Friday. It is located at 718 E. Monte Vista Ave. in Vacaville.
