No applicants for vacant Travis School District seat

FAIRFIELD — No one applied for a vacant Travis School District trustee seat representing Travis Air Force Base.

Trustee John Dickerson said he’s surprised at the response to the vacancy created when Dawn Kirby resigned because of a military move that sent her husband John Kirby to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

“I did think there would be more of a public interest,” Dickerson said of the vacant seat.

People had until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to apply. Travis School District trustees were to interview candidates Thursday.

Candidates for the seat have to live on Travis Air Force Base and Dickerson said the California residency requirement for the school board seat complicates matters because many people at the base aren’t residents of the state.
