FAIRFIELD — It will cost $5,112 for Fairfield-Suisun School District employees to stay at Marriott Hotels while attending conferences in Monterey and Pasadena.
Special Education Department staff will attend the Every Child Counts symposium Jan. 15-17, 2014, in Monterey.
Eight employees will stay two nights in five rooms, according to the school district. The rate on the Marriott rooms is $190 each plus tax and fees for a total of $2,087.
Technology department staff attended the California Education Technology Professional Association meeting Nov. 19-22 in Pasadena.
Six employees stayed four nights in three rooms. The rate on the rooms was $219 each plus tax and fees for a total of $3,024.
Trustees for the Fairfield-Suisun district approved the payments at their Dec. 12 meeting.
David Isom, president of the board of trustees, said what school district employees learn at conferences benefits students – “the most important thing we could be doing.”
“These conferences,” he said, “only serve that purpose.”
Staying at the conference headquarters in a Marriott Hotel means fewer expenses than lodging at other sites further away, Isom said, and district employees get the best rate.
He said wonderful things are taking place in the Fairfield-Suisun district.
“It’s always important,” Isom said, “that the positive pieces come out.”
“Most of our community is really interested in the positive things the district is doing,” the board president said.
