FAIRFIELD — Dawn Kirby, a Travis School District trustee since 2011, has stepped down from the board because of a military move that sent her husband John Kirby to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

“I did the very best I could with the information I had,” Kirby, 39, said of her time on the board.

She called her years on the school board “the education of a lifetime.”

Kirby was appointed to the school board in October 2011 and faced no opposition in November 2013.

She had worked as a real estate agent until moving to California from Delaware.

Kirby spoke Tuesday from South Carolina about her May 20 resignation from the school board.

I bet she has great stories about California to tell all those South Carolinians too!
