FAIRFIELD — The Solano Community College governing board received doses of both positive and negative news as it listened to an enrollment update Wednesday night.
While this year’s district enrollment of 10,025 students rose from the fall semester of last year, it is still 18 percent below its peak in 2009, said Peter Cammish, the college’s dean of research and planning.
Since 2009, enrollment has increased in Fairfield and Vacaville but decreased at the Vallejo Center. Transportation to and from Fairfield was brought up during the board meeting as one of the issues for shrinking enrollment.
“Transportation is difficult from Fairfield to Vallejo,” Cammish said. He added that, “perhaps it’s easier to get to Diablo Valley College” in Contra Costa County from Vallejo.
The board agreed to bring the declining numbers and transportation issues between the district’s campuses back for a study session.
