VACAVILLE — A second Vacaville School District board member has resigned because of a move to another community outside the school district.
Teri Nutt is moving to Suisin City and her resignation, announced Monday, will be effect Oct. 1, said Dave McCallum, president of the Vacaville school board.
Larry Mazzuca resigned in August because he is moving to Nevada City, McCallum said.
“It’s very unusual,” McCallum said of the two resignations. “It’s unusual to have any resignations, period.”
The two resignations near the same time are coincidental and due to the school board members moving out of the Vacaville School District boundaries, McCallum said.
Chris Flask was appointed Thursday to succeed Mazzuca. The board will now take up how to handle the vacancy created by Nutt stepping down. A special election would cost about $600,000, McCallum said.
Fifteen people applied to fill Mazzuca’s term and the school board could consider those applicants if the panel appoints someone to succeed Nutt.
“Board members were all very impressed with the candidate pool,” McCallum said.
Nutt, a school teacher in Vallejo, could not be reached Monday for comment.
Mazzuca is retiring as the parks and recreation director for the city of Napa, McCallum said.
