FAIRFIELD — Police are searching for an armed bandit who beat and robbed a Valero gas station clerk early Tuesday night.

Sgt. Dan Marshall said the clerk at the West Texas Street store tripped the silent alarm at 5:50 p.m. after a man entered the store with a gun. The man then clubbed the clerk with a gun and fled on foot with an unknown amount of stolen money, Marshall said.

The suspect was described as a black male with a mask and gloves, wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, according to police.
