FAIRFIELD — A report of shots fired in the area of Warren Avenue in unincorporated Vallejo resulted in a pursuit through the streets of the city Wednesday and ended with the suspect crashing a car into a home.
Solano County sheriff’s deputies arrested Andres Leonard Melgarejo, 22, of Vallejo, after he allegedly took off in his gold Cadillac when deputies pulled up behind him at a stop light at approximately 9 a.m. at Glen Cove Parkway and Robles Drive, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.
The driver, later identified as Melgarejo, ran several red lights at a high rate of speed before losing control of the car at Rollingwood and Pope drives in Vallejo and crashing the Cadillac into the house on the corner, according to the release.
Melgarejo tried to toss a loaded .45-caliber handgun as he fled the crash scene, according to the release. The handgun was later found to be reported stolen out of Nevada, according to the release.
Deputies used a stun gun to subdue Melgarejo before placing him in handcuffs.
He was treated a local hospital for minor injuries and was booked on suspicion of cocaine possession, transportation of cocaine, possession of cocaine while armed with a loaded firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, committing a felony while on felony probation, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, hit and run with property damage and felony evading police.
Melgarejo was held at the Solano County jail without bail because of the alleged felony probation violation. Melgarejo’s first court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Fairfield courthouse.
