FAIRFIELD — A rash of fatal shootings continued Tuesday in Vallejo when a man was shot and killed outside a business on the 1600 block of Fairgrounds Drive.
The shooting was reported at 3:40 p.m. The victim, described in a news release only as a black man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification was withheld pending family notification.
Police said a large, hostile crowd formed soon after the arrival of the officers, triggering a call for mutual aid from the surrounding jurisdictions. Officers from American Canyon and the California Highway Patrol as well as Solano and Napa county sheriff’s deputies responded to help control the crowd so the crime scene could be preserved and secured.
This is Vallejo’s third fatal shooting in less than a week.
Two women were caught in the crossfire of a gun battle late Friday outside a rap concert at Dan Foley Park. One of the women died. A man was shot Thursday afternoon in the area of Webb and Cedar streets. He died at the hospital.
Anyone with information about Tuesday’s shooting is encouraged to call the Vallejo Police Department tip line at 800-488-9383.
