FAIRFIELD — A Vacaville man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl who lived next door to him on Amapola Street more than seven years ago was in court briefly Thursday for the scheduling of a probable cause hearing.
Michael L. Winnett, 48, has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of continuously assaulting a child and possessing child pornography.
Winnett was ordered to return to court Dec. 16 for a probable cause hearing.
He was arrested Nov. 27 after the girl, now 15, reported that Winnett had sexually abused her between 2003 and 2006.
After Winnett’s arrest, authorities said a search of his car allegedly turned up 67 pair of women’s panties. Other women’s panties were allegedly found in the saddlebags of his motorcycle, according to court records, while a check of Winnett’s cellphone allegedly uncovered more than 100 photos of naked young girls with naked adult men.
Court records also reflect that the girl told investigators that she would regularly go to Winnett’s home after school while her mother was still at work. She said Winnett convinced her to let him take nude pictures of her, he would show her pornographic movies and he would sometimes give her small amounts of money as gifts.
Police in 2005 investigated Winnett’s relationship with the girl after her mother came home and found her next door at Winnett’s home. The girl was questioned by police, but did not report any inappropriate behavior, according to court records.
