FAIRFIELD — The suspect in the fall 2012 shooting death of a Fairfield man in the driveway of his Oceanic Court home was in court briefly Wednesday.

Zavier A. Pigues, 21, who is in jail without bail, was ordered to return to court July 8 for a probable cause hearing. Pigues has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

Police believe Pigues got into a heated argument with Brian Beaufort, 30, at approximately 3 a.m. Oct. 28, 2012, in front of Beaufort’s home. Beaufort’s girlfriend is Pigues’ sister. The dispute ended with Pigues allegedly shooting Beaufort. The eight-year Marine Corps veteran died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

The shooting was Fairfield’s ninth homicide of 2012.
