FAIRFIELD — A Vacaville man who faces a murder charge made a brief court appearance Tuesday.

Sergio Perez, 27, has pleaded not guilty for the July 9, 2013, shooting death of a Suisun City man at a rural home in the hills north of Vacaville.

During the hearing, Perez’s attorney declared a conflict of interest and Judge Robert Bowers appointed a new defense attorney to take over the case. Bowers ordered Perez to return to court July 15 when dates for a jury trial may be scheduled.

Perez was driving a pickup truck that was intercepted by sheriff’s deputies at a rural Vacaville home on Steiger Hills Road. Deputies found the body of Jimmy Degros, who had been shot in the back of the head, in the back of the pickup. Inside the home, they found a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation with hundreds of budding plants, along with 23 pounds of processed marijuana and nearly an ounce of cocaine.

Perez’s brother, Eriberto Perez, fled the home before deputies arrived. A warrant for his arrest remains outstanding.

Anyone with any information about Eriberto “Eddie” Perez is asked to call the Solano County Sheriff’s Office at 421-7090 or Solano County Crime Stoppers at 644-7867.
