Solano deputy under investigation for suspected off-duty, misdemeanor DUI

FAIRFIELD — A Solano County Sheriff’s Office official confirmed Tuesday that a deputy was arrested last week on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence.

The longtime deputy, Randy Ramos, was arrested after being involved in a two-car crash shortly after 11 a.m. Jan. 31 on eastbound Interstate 80 in Dixon. No injuries were reported. Ramos was not on duty at the time of his arrest.

A California Highway Patrol officer took Ramos to the CHP office in Fairfield where he underwent special testing. A CHP officer concluded that Ramos had been driving under the influence of an intoxicant other than alcohol. Ramos was issued a citation and released without going through the typical process of being booked into the county jail.

The District Attorney’s Office has not filed any charge for the incident.

Ramos has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation into the incident, according to a Sheriff’s Office official.

Isn't that special? Anybody else gets booked but he doesn't? What hypocrisy!

Actually not that unusual. Since the mid 90's when booking fees were enacted, most agencies, including FPD and the CHP have released DUI's on citations pursuant to certain requirements. This is done to save money and time. In the case of FPD, it has to be a 1st offense, with a valid license, and a person with a valid license must pick the arrestee up within a half hour. That person must also be sober and sign a form taking responsibility to insure the arrestee doesn't drive. The arrestee's car is also towed and stored.

@FF64-Ok, that sounds like exactly what happened to my ex husband in VV, in 2000. I didn't know why a detective was calling me, since we were divorced, but nonetheless, he told me I could come pick him up from the drunk tank, or he would be booked. If he wasn't my child's father, I would have left him there. Thanks for the explanation, because that honestly baffled me,as to why he got to go home.

Another cop who will get away with a slap on the wrist. Sit outside Legends and you could arrest half of the FFPD for DUI's.

This guy , Ramos, deserves it. He performs his duties as a correctional officer at our jail in such an unprofessional manner, if he had control over ANYONE except a bunch of cons, he would've been fired a LONG time ago. Now to the good part, everything that FF64 said is true-EXCEPT FOR THE FACT HE WASN"T DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. In that precocious situation (aka under the influence of narcotics) the guidelines govern that the suspect be held for an 8 hour cooling off period, please refer to your california vehicle code right around section 23152/3

The SO and CHP do not pay booking fee's so they can arrest and book as many people as they want. The special testing was more than likely done by a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert)As far as being arrested for DUI other than an alcohol it has been know for a long time that this deputy has had an addiction to pain killers from a (possible)on duty injury from a while back. Again special treatment for one of the sheriffs men. A two car accident more than likely had to involve injuries involved, which would have made this a felony DUI. If he Ramos had injuries that would warrant the citation instead of booking, but it appears to be just that "Special Treatment"

Why don't we call it what it is Jess?! DRUGS! Remember the cops's party house in Suisun and the convicted drug felon I arrested there? Remember the embarrasment, the shame and the humiliation for local officialdom as I briefed local governmental bodies on what we homeowners and taxpayers had to put up with? Memories sure are short around here and your community is very undesirable.

I wish all your thug cops would leave or go jump in a lake. And then there's how I really feel but I'm not allowed to express those views here. Budget cuts anyone?
