FAIRFIELD — A three-day sweep of registered sex offenders in Solano County resulted in 17 arrests, including two with new allegations.
The Solano County Sheriff’s Office conducted the sweep, which ended Tuesday. They checked on 73 registered sex offenders in the county.
A press release from the department said deputies split into several teams and were tasked with checking to see that registrants were complying with the terms of their parole or probation as well as verifying that they were living at the primary addresses they had listed on their registration forms.
During the sweep, compliance checks were conducted on people who have prior convictions for sexual offenses and are registered sex offenders in the county.
Officers arrested 17 people for alleged parole or probation violations. Of those 17, two also face new allegations, including possession of narcotics and possession of live ammunition by a convicted felon.
“The Solano County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting all citizens of Solano County from registered sex offenders and the devastation their acts can cause to families,” Sheriff Tom Ferrara said in the press release. “Continuing checks on registered sex offenders within Solano County is a priority of mine and securing the (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement) grant each year assists the Solano County Sheriff’s Office in doing so.”
The Solano County Sheriff’s Enforcement Team oversaw the sweep, which was funded by the grant that the Sheriff’s Office has participated in since 2008, according to the press release.
The teams consisted of law enforcement officers from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office SET Team, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (CAL-MMET), Solano County Narcotics Enforcement Team (SOL-NET), the Solano County Probation Department, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Parole), and the U.S. Marshals Office.
