FAIRFIELD — A Rio Vista man pleaded no contest Monday to five felony charges of committing lewd acts on a child in exchange for a 16-year prison sentence.

Donny D. Elliott, 51, was arrested in August 2012 at the Lots of Tots day care center on Tahoe Drive in Rio Vista after police said they learned Elliott had been molesting children at the center, which has since been shut down.

The victims ranged in age from 3 to 14. He was suspected of molesting some of the children dozens of times at the center.

Elliott, who has been in jail since his arrest, is scheduled to be sentenced to prison March 14.

Now read the first sentence carefully: It says Donny Elliot committed lewd acts on a child in exchange for 16-year sentence. Hunh? Perhaps a restructuring of the sentence might be appropriate.

Re-read that first sentence. It says that he pleaded no contest to five felony charges in exchange for a 16-year sentence.

Put on the dunce cap and go sit in the corner. It can't be any clearer: You are proof that our language is being ruined. Grammarian? Hardly!

The correct sentence structure should be: In exchange for a 16-year prison sentence a Rio Vista man pleaded no contest to five felony charges of committing lewd acts on a child. Now do you get it?

There really needs to be much better state screening of ALL of these child care centers in someones private home. Far too often a 'relative' never put through any of the background checks turned out to be a pedophile often even turning out to be a registered sex offender the day care owner was trying to keep a secret.

That's because Jess Sullivan not only is in my opinion an incompetent writer, but a bald pathetic man who does little research on certain cases. He renders people guilty before knowing all the facts. He has a tendency to side with the DA and the police...REGARDLESS of the facts. If I could rate him on a 1 to 5 scale, I'd give him a -5...Get a real job Sullivan!
