FAIRFIELD — Fairfield police early Friday morning responded to a burglary alarm at Sheldon Elementary School and made two arrests.
Officers arriving at the school at 1 a.m. heard the sound of breaking glass. They established a perimeter and found two juvenile male suspects during their search. The suspects tried to flee, but officers caught them, according to a Fairfield police press release.
A classroom in the southeast corner of the school had a broken window. Property that had apparently been removed from the classroom was on the ground nearby and toward the front of the school. A school employee came to the scene and identified the property, the release said.
Police arrested the two boys, one 16 and one 17. They booked the suspects into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, with the 16-year-old also booked for an alleged violating probation.
Sheldon Elementary School is located on the 1900 block of Woolner Avenue, near Allan Witt Park.
