VACAVILLE — Police are searching for a man who slipped out of handcuffs before reportedly assaulting an officer and fleeing.
The incident took place around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Police Department parking lot as an officer was removing an item from the suspect’s pocket.
Daniel Del Real, 19, of Vacaville, was originally arrested on suspicion of violating a domestic violence protection order, said Sgt. Vince Nadasdy.
Nadasdy said Del Real was pulled from the vehicle as a female officer was removing a piece of paper from his pocket. At some point, Nadasdy said, the suspect removed one handcuff.
After he was placed against the vehicle, Del Real spun around and a struggle ensued, Nadasdy said. He then ran across the street and the search was on.
Original reports were that the suspect had both arms handcuffed behind his back, but after a video review it was realized he had slipped one cuff, Nadasdy said. A K-9 unit and officers searched the area to no avail.
A warrant was issued Wednesday for Del Real and police are still looking for him. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 449-5200.
