FAIRFIELD — Fairfield police and the FBI are investigating a body found floating early Thursday in the Putah South Canal along the 3200 block of North Texas Street, adjacent to the Solano County Transportation Department yard.

The call came in about 7:50 a.m. Police and fire responded to the scene, where they found a dead female.

Friday update: How body got in Fairfield canal remains a mystery.

“We are figuring out what we have,” Sgt. Randy Boggs of the Fairfield Police Department said at the scene. “It’s all preliminary.”

The canal is located on U.S. government property. As such, the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined the investigation.

Fairfield police issued a press release early Thursday afternoon that said the investigation was ongoing and no additional details were available. Lt. Stephen Crane said he couldn’t answer any questions, such as an approximate age or how long the body may have been there.

The coroner’s office did not release the name, either.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department Major Crimes Unit at 428-7600 or Crime Stopper at 644-7867. Callers may remain anonymous.

I would bet my ass that the dead body has something to do with that nasty hotel next door. All the drug addicts and prostitutes hang out there.

Wondering if it might be the homeless woman that routinely hangs out in the area?

CD Brooks, she was not the local homeless woman. Brian, though I agree with you regarding the history of activity @ the motel, After viewing what what witnessed yesterday, I have my doubts. Lupita, indeed prayers for the family irregardless.

That canal is 33 miles long. She could've floated downstream from another town.

I was just thinking it was MDS who decided to take a break from her commenting on the DR and decided to go brown water rafting in the canal.

Fairfield police say they have identified her as a 41-year-old Fairfield resident. They aren’t releasing her name pending notification to her family.

No this was not a homeless woman OR a prostitute. This was a person regardless of what she did or didn't do so I'd Appreciate some respect. And thank you to all who sent prayers. She has a family that loves her and is deeply hurt. Anyone with ANY info please please come forward. We just want answers and closure.
