SUISUN CITY — Police are investigating the cause of a deep cut to the neck of a man who was stopped late Tuesday on his bicycle.
Cmdr. Tim Mattos said the Suisun City Police Department is looking into whether foul play was a factor in the injury, but have yet to make a determination. Mattos said multiple people have been eliminated as suspects and he is waiting for the victim’s health to improve before an interview can take place.
Lawrence Byrd, 52, of Suisun City, was first seen on his bicycle by police at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Bella Vista and Montebello drives.
The stop began when an officer on a routine patrol nearly hit the man on the bicycle, Mattos said. After trying to stop the man, he briefly fled, Mattos said. When the officer finally apprehended Byrd at the intersection of Montebello and Walters Road, he noticed the cut.
Police noticed Byrd had a deep laceration to his neck and called for an air ambulance, which landed nearby.
Mattos said Byrd was still under sedation Wednesday and couldn’t clearly communicate during an attempted interview. Mattos said he hoped to have more information Thursday.
