VACAVILLE — Police arrested a 22-year-old parolee-at-large Monday afternoon after he eluded them for about an hour.
An officer was driving on the 1600 block Alamo Drive around noon en route to another call when he recognized a man he believed was a wanted parolee. He alerted another officer in the area to make contact, then the man fled on foot when police arrived, said Officer Bryan Larsen.
Police later identified the man as Carlos Ramirez of Vacaville. Larsen said Ramirez was a parolee who was previously charged with grand theft and witness intimidation.
He said Ramirez was visiting the home of an acquaintance when he was spotted. Larsen said Ramirez fled into the residence before fleeing into the backyard and hopping a fence.
A perimeter was set up on nearby streets and a California Highway Patrol helicopter was eventually brought in for assistance in the search. Larsen said no K-9 unit was available at the time.
A call soon came in from a resident of the Rose Garden Senior Apartments on California Drive, reporting a suspicious person in the backyard.
Police found Ramirez hunkered down in the shed in the backyard of a unit in the apartment complex, where he was arrested without incident and booked into Solano County jail.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Vacaville police at 449-5200.
