FAIRFIELD — The owner of a Vacaville motorcycle repair shop was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on charges he stole thousands of dollars from customers.
One customer at Nor Cal Moto Works told police he took his Yamaha into the Elmira Road shop in July for an overheating problem and found out in August that the shop owner, Kenneth M. Ostrom, had traded his motorcycle for another motorcycle, according to police testimony at Ostrom’s probable cause hearing.
Another customer told Vacaville police he gave Ostrom nearly $2,000 cash on a handshake lawaway plan, only to have the motorcycle he planned to buy disappear when he showed up at the shop to pick up his purchase. Other customers reported similar cash deals for motorcycles that disappeared instead of being delivered to customers.
“He was selling nonexistent motorcycles,” prosecutor Elizabeth Ring said at the conclusion of the hearing.
Ostrom, 45, a registered sex offender, has been locked up since Vacaville police investigators arrested him in August.
Ostrom was ordered to return to court Oct. 29 to be arraigned on the felony charges and possibly have dates set for a jury trial.
