FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man who wrapped up an argument with another man by stabbing him in the chest agreed Friday to a six-year prison sentence after pleading no contest to a felony assault charge.
Ricardo Venegas, 19, was arguing with the other man in the parking lot of the Solano Lodge on North Texas Street on the morning of June 10. Venegas said that the dispute ended when he took a swing at the man but missed.
Video camera surveillance footage of the parking lot reviewed by Fairfield police revealed a different story.
The stabbing victim spent a week in the hospital because of damage to his liver and diaphragm.
Venegas had been scheduled for a probable cause hearing when he agreed to a plea deal that lopped a year off a possible seven-year prison sentence.
