FAIRFIELD — Jury selection got under way Thursday in the trial of a Vacaville man accused of shooting and killing a Vacaville mother.

Sidney Wilson, 35, has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge. He is accused of fatally shooting Victoria Corral in the garage of her Cambridge Drive home on the night of Sept. 8, 2011.

Wilson is the father of two of Corral’s four children, who were in the home at the time of the shooting.

At a probable cause hearing last year, one of the children testified that Wilson had gone into the garage of the home with Corral and several minutes later the children heard a gunshot. The child also testified that Wilson and Corral had argued earlier in the day and had argued frequently during their stormy relationship.

Wilson’s attorney previously likened the killing to an outburst in the heat of passion. Prosecutor Terry Ray has said she believes the killing was premeditated.
