FAIRFIELD — A judge on Tuesday put off a decision until at least Feb. 25 about whether or not to reverse a jury’s guilty verdict for a Suisun City killer.
Judge Wendy G. Getty announced the delay after saying she recently received a letter from one of four jurors she questioned last month about what took place during their closed-door deliberations before they found Ryan J. Moore guilty of second-degree murder.
Moore shot and killed Bettina Brown on the night of Oct. 23, 2012, at his Stellar Way home in Suisun City. Moore had been drinking heavily before he picked up a rifle and shot Brown in the chest.
A two-week trial in August 2013 ended with jurors rejecting the claim that the shooting was an accident and finding Moore guilty.
Jurors have said they talked about Moore not taking the witness stand in spite of Getty’s repeated admonitions that the topic was off limits and should not play any part in their deliberations.
The juror who wrote the letter to Getty is scheduled to attend the Feb. 25 hearing.
