FAIRFIELD — He is 65 years old and they were teens, three girls as young as 15.
He paid them, had sex with them repeatedly and Friday he pleaded no contest to 22 felony sexual assault charges in exchange for the possibility that he might live beyond the length of his time in prison.
Robert L. Hoover, then-owner of Nightshadow Creations Photography, was scheduled for a probable cause hearing Friday on 56 felony sexual assault charges. Instead, he took a plea deal, which includes his being sentenced to 20 years in prison. With credit for time served and for good behavior, Hoover will be eligible for parole around his 83rd birthday.
The former Fairfield photographer gave a full confession to police after his arrest in December 2012. The police investigation turned up videos of Hoover having sex with the girls and they found more than 50,000 pornographic pictures on his computer.
Hoover’s attorney, Denis Honeychurch, agreed to sentencing for his client on Sept. 25.
Hoover’s first victim was a 15-year-old girl in June 2011 with whom Hoover engaged in multiple sex acts. Police found photos of the girl staged in bondage scenes and with a ball gag in her mouth, taken during the assaults. Police also found pictures of the girl engaging in sex acts with Hoover.
Starting in February 2012, a second teenage girl joined the first girl in sex acts also involving Hoover. A third teenage girl is also named in court records as the victim of a sex offense by Hoover sometime between April and June 2012.
Hoover was arrested after one of the girls reported that he had raped her.
