FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man with a long history of domestic violence was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years and four months in prison for a brutal 2011 assault on his ex-girlfriend at her Gulf Drive home.
After a two-week trial last month, a jury found Dermaine S. Salley, 36, guilty of felony domestic violence and assault charges because of what he did to his girlfriend on the night of April 11, 2011.
Salley attacked his girlfriend repeatedly for several hours, choking her, threatening to kill her and at one point shoving the barrel of a loaded shotgun several inches into her mouth as he screamed at her.
Salley’s anger had been sparked by the ex-girlfriend warning the father of her children in a phone call to not return the children to the home because Salley was threatening to shoot and kill them.
