FAIRFIELD — The prosecution rested and the defense has begun its case in the murder trial for a Suisun City man who shot and killed a woman at his home on the night of Oct. 23, 2012.
Ryan J. Moore, 32, has pleaded not guilty to charges he murdered Bettina Brown.
Moore and Brown, along with another friend, were playing video games and hanging out at the Stellar Way home that night. Moore was drinking tequila – lots of it – before he picked up a rifle, announced he was going shoot Brown and then pulled the trigger.
Defense witnesses who testified Wednesday included an expert who talked about how little pressure was required on the trigger of the rifle to fire a shot. Another expert talked about how alcohol can cause blackouts in drinkers.
The experts were followed by a succession of Moore’s friends who all described him as a caring, loyal, generous, peaceful and trustworthy friend.
Moore’s attorney said she expects to wrap up her case Thursday and gave no indication that Moore would take the witness stand.
Judge Wendy Getty said she expected closing arguments and jury deliberation in the case would take place Friday.
