FAIRFIELD — Arraignment for a Vacaville man who faces a murder charge was postponed Tuesday.

Sergio L. Perez, 26, was ordered to return to court May 14 for the rescheduled hearing. The delay was because Perez’s attorney dropped the case and the Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent him.

Perez and his brother, 25-year-old Eriberto “Eddie” Perez, are accused of shooting and killing Jimmy Degros shortly before 9 p.m. at their Steiger Hill Road home north of Vacaville.

A neighbor called police on the night of July 9, 2013, to report gunshots. Deputies investigating the call spotted Perez driving from the home in his pickup truck and intercepted him. They found Degros, who had been fatally shot in the head, in the back of the truck under a sheet of plywood. Investigators found a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation inside the home, with hundreds of plants, along with 20 pounds of processed marijuana.

Eriberto Perez left the home before his brother. He remains on the run and has an outstanding no-bail arrest warrant.

Anyone with information about Eriberto “Eddie” Perez can call the Solano County Sheriff’s Office at 421-7090 or Solano County Crime Stoppers at 644-7867.
