FAIRFIELD — A woman is dead and another was injured when police say they were caught in the crossfire of a gunfight late Friday outside a rap concert in Vallejo.
It was the city’s second fatal shooting in as many days.
Friday’s shooting was reported shortly before midnight in the area of Dan Foley Park, where a rapper from Atlanta known as Lil Scrappy was the headline performer. The park is located next to Lake Chabot and down the road from Sutter Solano Medical Center.
Officers say they found two women with gunshot wounds. One was unresponsive. Both were taken to the hospital, where one died, police said in a news release. The other woman was treated and released.
Both were attending the concert in the main meeting hall building at the park when police say a number of people began shooting at one another. Police say the women were not the targets of the gunfire but were instead innocent bystanders. Several vehicles were also struck by bullets.
The woman who died was 34 years old. Her name and city of residence were not released pending family notification. Identifying information for the other shooting victim was not released.
Police say they are looking for a black male wearing a tan shirt who fled the scene of the shooting, who they identified as a suspect. No other information about those involved in the shooting was released.
Vallejo police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that happened at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday. The victim, identified as Emil Z. Rodriguez, 22, of Vallejo, was found in the area of Webb and Cedar streets, a short distance from Steffan Manor Elementary School. He died at the hospital.
Police searched two homes on the 500 block of Vervais Street but did not find the suspect, who they describe in a news release as a black man in his 20s.
Anyone with information about either fatal shooting is asked to call Vallejo police Detective Fabio Rodriguez at 553-7213.
