FAIRFIELD — State Sen. Lois Wolk came to Suisun Valley on Tuesday to talk about olive oil.

The valley is gaining a reputation for its wineries. But it also is gaining fame in the olive oil world, with Il Fiorello Olive Oil Co. among the growers and producers. Mark and Ann Sievers of Il Fiorello invited Wolk to see their business on Mankas Corner Road.

“We’re just kind of keeping her abreast of what we’re doing,” Mark Sievers said.

Among the topics on Sievers’ mind is agritourism. Suisun Valley can be a place not only where olives are grown and made into oil, but also where people can come to buy the oil, he said.

Napa and Sonoma counties have olive oil production, but it has been more a byproduct of having olives as decorative trees, Mark Sievers said. He sees room for Suisun Valley to go further than those nearby counties.

Wolk is certainly an interested party. She is chairwoman of the Senate Subcommittee on Olive Oil Production and Emerging Products.

Earlier this year, she took steps to deal with imported brands she considers mislabeled as “extra virgin” olive oil, to the detriment of the California brands against which they compete. She sponsored a bill tightening standards for “extra virgin” olive oil.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill in October.

“Now, using the clear standards set in place by this new law, California can begin to pursue options for enforcement,” Wolk said in a news release.

Mark Sievers said the legislation is important. He wants to keep Wolk up to date on the industry’s issues.

“She just needs to be aware of what’s going on, so if things come up, she can facilitate it or prevent barriers,” he said.

Ann Sievers, who is running for a position on the California Olive Council, also talked with Wolk.

“She now understands that we’re pretty committed to educating the public on good food, healthy food and how to use (olive oil) in cooking and how to respect that,” Ann Sievers said.

Wolk also got to see the new Il Fiorello olive mill made in Italy by Pieralisi. Mark Sievers believes it to be the most high-tech, modern mill in North America.

DAILYREPUBLIC.com does not necessarily condone the comments here, nor does it review every post. Read our full policy.

  1. Lois Wolk is on may agricultural committees in the state senate. It’s her passion.

How about Fairfield’s invention that is better at pealing fruit skin for mass food production? It adapts to the changing levels of fruit skin thickness based on minor changes in fruit size.

This high tech invention will boost farmer’s yields, and offer high paying salaries if a company decided to produce it in our voter district. The US rights are offered free of charge (don’t give us any money) if you produce part of it in this area.

    • You may want to speak with Dr. Guest. He may take issue with skin-peeling…

    • This is a very intricate game being played by these cyber bullies. Take a look at what they may gain through their actions. Then their agenda becomes more clear.

One thing is fairly sure: they are scaring away local manufacturers that might compete with existing companies. Thousands of jobs have been exported overseas already because of actions like those of these cyber bullies http://www.Cyber-Bullies.Net.

      • Wow, now that’s a stretch!
I did a company report some years back about a positive attitude and humor in the workplace providing for a higher level of productivity. Then I read a negative review by someone else denigrating the same behavior as non-productive. Hmm. Guess I know where I’d rather work! :)

  2. Ca state senator pushing ag but not hi tech ag jobs? See comment at end of article. Then see invention co Lois Wolk fights against because they are not in her political network? Details at http://www.FixFairfield.org‘s blog. Lois sends Econ development money to push lower paying jobs? You decide.

Lois has many good points however.

  3. Is asking for a little justice asking too much? She won’t really even talk much to us.

Wolk actually is in the middle of a long drawn out drama about supporting Innovation Institute’s competitors. On top of that, a number of cyber bullies http://www.cyber-bullies.net who support her views keep harassing us for asking Wolk and her crew to be more fair.

  4. Call a wha-mbulance! What in the world have we “bullies” been trying to tell you all along? Geez man, wise up.

  5. Fairfield's Innovation Institute

Again and Again. This is another example of cyber bullying http://www.Cyber-Bullies.Net from CD Brooks and Mr Practical who refused to give their organization name or phone number.

They refuse to call us at 707 434-8000

  6. More word games. The bully tactics are explained also at http://www.DogPonyShow.Net. The bullies are on auto pilot, day after day.

Evidently the economic development funds being in the $100,000,000+ category means this is very important for the said bullies. They don’t contribute any wisdom, just more rhetoric.

    Fairfield’s Innovation Institute

    • Here’s some wisdom for yo. Your disdain for Wolk is entirely self-serving. She is supporting Ag because Ag is the number one industry in her district. She would be remiss in her duties if she didn’t. I’m not a fan of Lois’, but what she’s doing here is good stuff.

Why would any of us give our “organization name or phone number” since none of us are here under the auspices of any organization. We’re just DR readers who give our opinion.

  7. As readers can see, nobody has yet provided a better solution. We simply seek at least some level of fairness from the powers that be. Discussing the truth is now the only option left as diplomatic efforts have failed.

So far nobody has called Innovation Institute or provided clear constructive suggestions that may be a better track to establishing a fair business environment without political retaliation.

The cyber bullies’ tactics http://www.Cyber-Bullies.Net are simply there to clutter the communication with dumb sound bytes.

  8. Nobody from your old boy network called. Phone number was to help verify our ID and let people call about how horrible your cyber bullying is.

If the $100,000,000 alleged improperly spent monies are not so important, then why do you keep hassling those who question local government’s political retaliation?

Propose how peace can be achieved after reading the links.

    • Do you not remember that your whole “cyber bullying” campaign (and this doesn’t fit any definition of cyber bullying) started when I politely and calmly questioned comments that Bertani made about re-invigorating downtown.

Apparently it’s ok for you to question but not others. There’s a word for that…

      • Stop your lies. Your gang admitted to being blogger bullies.

        • Ok… so you obviously don’t remember. Long live Harry!

          • As Mr. Practical and his ruthless gang of cyber-bullies lurked through the darkness navigating the awesome course known as the internet, the Kays-stone-cops began the arduous task of tracing them and deactivating their system. But alas, to no avail as the MPCB squad were far superior and untouchable…

          • Nice! Another nominee for “Comment of the Week!”

        • Please enroll me in the CD/Mr.P CyberBully gang. I am so very tired of Fairfield Innovation Institute (What a silly name) taking up so much space with whining and moaning about citizens exercising their right to speak freely. And FII’s vague threats to “tell on” us and bring down some sort of wrath from some Behavior Boss are in themselves a form of bullying. Enough from you, FII. Scat! Shoo!

          • Fairfield's Innovation Institute

Read more carefully. Innovation Institute actually was started by us, and the name is allegedly copied by numerous corps in one form or another. They are tied perhaps with Walmart, IBM, MIT and many others. Google “Innovation Institute” and you will see for yourself that they loved to copy the name first used in 1984 so much that they didn’t think it silly.

If you are tired of us, then you might have to stop using many of the inventions we conceptualized.

You folks are simply “polluting the blog” with tricky rhetoric devices http://www.RhetoricDevices.com.

          • FDC, POOF! You are now a respected member of our organization. Not sure what that other guys poroblem is, but he pollutes this site and I bet he doesn’t even recycle! Have a wonderful day Sir!

  9. Perception is a wonderful yet elusive trait Mr. Kays. So glad enough Fairfield voters had good sense during those elections when you sought office. Do you ever listen to yourself? Honestly, you rant and ramble with senseless posts and make misinformed accusations. Then you turn around and lie about folks here being cyber-bullies and say they made threats about vandalism. Where in the world do you get this stuff and why? You are so wrong on every level, everybody tells you that yet you keep coming up with the same pathetic comments. Okay, I will not respond again until you show a little humility. But remember, the instant you make an accusation or use the term cyber-bully, you will have again alienated your audience. We’re waiting…

  10. CD Brooks, you know the answers to your questions. Why are you asking them again? You repeatedly respond to the same statements with the same questions.

1: Take up matters with Mr Kays at 707 434-8000 directly. This blog is about political retaliation against Innovation Institute for being too innovative in offering job creation.

2: Don’t put words into Mr Kays’ mouth. That actually is slander. Read the words you believe he stated carefully before rewording them into your http://www.DogPonyShow.Net language. Call him if you dare 707 434-8000

    3. Steven Kays won more votes than any other living city council person in which he ran for office, that is still in office, with the exception of John Mraz.

    4. You are again reminded that your comments are being documented. Links to your comments are being made for audiences in Solano, the US and abroad.

Change your “CD Brooks” name to “Broken CD” and stop with the same rhetoric.

    Thank You

  11. Ok Mr. third person, your delusion is mind numbing but I won’t “bully” you further. Good grief, where’s my net?

  12. Focus on creating higher paying jobs, and voters may vote for you. How will you help create jobs? Can you be serious?

  13. Doubt Lois Wolk would approve the behavior from the blogger bullies. She would probably condemn their behavior. Constructive suggestions are needed to create jobs.

  14. More political retaliation for trying to create local jobs continues. Are these guys paid off by foreign manufacturers? Or is this too interesting to be true?

look at the Daily Republic newspaper’s article about shoppers going to Solano Mall for good deals (most products probably weren’t made locally):

Innovation Institute offered free US patent rights on over 1,000 interesting gadgets to local manufacturers.

Local manufacturers only need to manufacture the product locally to earn the free US patent rights. The US patent rights induces manufacturers to produce locally.

Google political retaliation in Solano County and Fairfield, California for more examples.
