FAIRFIELD — T. Burt McNaughton has been named co-publisher of the Daily Republic.

McNaughton joins his father, Foy McNaughton, as co-publisher. Foy McNaughton is also president and CEO of McNaughton Newspapers. T. Burt McNaughton had been the Daily Republic’s general manager.

“I’m extremely excited to be named co-publisher of the Daily Republic,” T. Burt McNaughton said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a child. I get to work with a tremendous team who dedicate themselves every day to producing an award-winning newspaper.

“I also get to stay involved in a community that cares so much about the town in which they live. I’ve met a lot of amazing people while volunteering my time in organizations like Kiwanis and the local chamber of commerce, and I look forward to continuing that in my new role.”

These are challenging times for the newspaper industry and for its readers as the economy continues emerging from the Great Recession, he said. People’s lives are more fast-paced than they once were. Social media and other technology are changing how people get news and information.

“Our response is to develop technology that helps us deliver news and advertisements to readers on our website and across social media,” T. Burt McNaughton said. “While we’re making these changes, we remain focused on improving the Daily Republic’s print edition for our loyal readers and advertisers so we can serve the needs of the people who live and work here.”

The McNaughton family has owned the Daily Republic since 1960.

“After over a decade of working side by side, it is time for T. Burt to share in the title of publisher,” Foy McNaughton said. “As my father and grandfather did in the 1950s, T. Burt and I will continue to publish a newspaper committed to our local communities.

“We believe strongly in the importance of local newspapers, from a watchdog to your tax dollars to a daily connection to what is happening around town. I look forward to this teamwork in the years to come.”

T. Burt McNaughton, 36, is a California native who attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and studied journalism. He worked at the McNaughton-owned Winters Express, moved to the advertising department of the McNaughton-owned Davis Enterprise, became circulation manager at the Enterprise, worked in the Daily Republic business office and in 2008 became the Daily Republic’s general manager.

He is a member of the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Fairfield Kiwanis Club. He is married to Wendy McNaughton and they have one daughter, Brooke.
