FAIRFIELD — A cardiovascular surgeon known for his work at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center and Stanford Medical Center has joined NorthBay Healthcare.
Ramin Beygui has become the medical director of NorthBay Healthcare’s Heart and Vascular Center. He is one of only a handful of surgeons in the nation simultaneously board certified in cardiac, thoracic, vascular and general surgery, a NorthBay press release said.
“The arrival of Dr. Beygui signals a new phase in the development of our heart program,” said Deborah Sugiyama, president of NorthBay Healthcare Group, in the press release. “Having someone with his credentials and experience will allow us to take our cardiac and vascular care to the next level.”
Beygui served as director of thoracic aortic aneurysm at UCLA and was surgical director of lung and heart-lung transplantation at Stanford University Medical Center. For the past seven years, he was an associate professor of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery in the Stanford University School of Medicine.
“I consider working at NorthBay Medical Center a great privilege,” Beygui said in the press release. “I will have an opportunity to once again practice the entire scope of my experience and expertise.”
His practice includes complex vascular surgery such as aortic aneurysm and dissection repair, cardiac surgery involving valve replacement and bypass surgery, as well as thoracic (chest) surgery to remove cancerous tumors and other diseased tissue, the press release said.
Beygui’s experience treating patients with ruptured blood vessels and those who experience balloon-like bulges in the wall of a blood vessel around the heart cannot be underestimated, Sugiyama said in the press release.
“These are cases in which every minute can make the difference, so having local access to emergency surgery will save lives,” she said.
