By From page B8 | February 03, 2014

FAIRFIELD — Mattress Discounters is trying to raise money for service assistance dogs that can do everything from picking up keys to turning out lights for people with disabilities.

The company, which has a Fairfield store, is teaming up with the national nonprofit group Canine Companions for Independence. It is accepting donations to help Canine Companions train and make available assistance dogs for people with disabilities, including wounded veterans.

It is also raising money for facility dogs that are skilled in 40 commands and used in hospitals and special education classes.

Mattress Discounters calls the donation drive Good Deed Dogs. People through March 9 can donate at www.mattressdiscountersdogs.com or at any Mattress Discounters store. Local stores are at 1370 Holiday Lane in Fairfield, 140 Nut Tree Parkway, Suite 200 in Vacaville and 165 Plaza Drive in Vallejo.
