VALLEJO — The Vallejo Business Alliance is trying to brighten the holiday season for foster teens.
It is collaborating with local businesses to promote a donation drive through Dec. 19 to benefit foster children ages 12 to 17. People can donate gift cards ranging from $10 to $25, as well as backpacks and similar items.
“This is the first time the VBA has initiated a donation drive of this type. We believe this group of foster children is largely bypassed during the holiday season and we want to address this need,” said David Gonzalez on behalf of the alliance board of directors in a press release.
Donated items will be presented to Foster a Dream during the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Holiday Mixer at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Team Chevrolet, 301 Columbus Parkway in Vallejo. Foster a Dream, a nonprofit group, works with 200 foster children in Solano County and at least half are teens, an alliance press release said.
Drop-off locations include Favela’s Fusion Restaurant, 3334 N. Texas St., Suite B, in Fairfield; ARS Realty, 239 Cassady St. in Vallejo; Vallejo Insurance Associates, 840 Tuolumne St. in Vallejo; and State Farm Insurance/Maria Zuniga Agency, 145 Plaza Drive, Suite 207, in Vallejo.
The alliance is comprised of the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce, Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce, Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.
