Companies plan identity theft prevention event

By From page B4 | February 25, 2013

Travis Credit Union and Security-Shred Inc. are offering a free identity theft prevention advice and free shredding next month.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon March 9 at Travis Credit Union headquarters at One Travis Way in Vacaville. Residents and small businesses can bring up to five boxes or bags of documents to be shredded.

One way to protect against identity theft is to dispose of unneeded documents responsibly, a Travis Credit Union press release said.

“Shredding sensitive paper documents is an important first step, but it doesn’t end there,” said Patsy Van Ouwerkerk, chief executive officer of Travis Credit Union, in a press release. “That’s why Travis Credit Union will also distribute important advice and simple steps everyone can take to prevent ID theft in their daily lives, both online and off.”
