FAIRFIELD — Anheuser-Busch’s Fairfield plant has been named by Food Processing as the green plant of the year.
The local brewery competed in the finals against the Campbell Soup plant in Napoleon, Ohio and the Frito-Lay plant in Beloit, Wis.
Its “green” credentials include a solar array, a wind energy turbine and an anaerobic digesting system to generate biogas from brewery wastewater. The brewery has filed plans with Fairfield to build a second turbine and a solar system to heat water.
