Solano Youth Theatre takes a magic carpet ride with ‘Aladdin’

SUISUN CITY — Solano Youth Theatre’s youngest company members are gearing up for a production of “Aladdin.”

The show is the first produced under the auspices of Young Artists Conservatory of Music and officially opens the Solano Youth Theatre 2011-12 season.

“I have seen some wonderful growth this fall,” said Dottie Bonneau, in a press release. ”There are actors who were reluctant to even speak at the beginning of rehearsal and now they empower each other and really jump in.”

Bonneau is directing the show and has almost 50 years of experience teaching kids.

“The multicultural aspect of this production as reflected in the music and costuming is also a wonderful component of this magical script,” she added.

Two separate casts are working on the same material in Vacaville and Vallejo. Bonneau leads the Vacaville contingent while Eric Hayes returns to lead the Vallejo/Benicia cast. There are 44 kids between the two sites.

“This is an incredibly exciting and significant moment in Solano Youth Theatre’s life. I’m so glad we are here,” said Holli Hornlien, Solano Youth Theatre program director, in the press release.

“Aladdin” performances are 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and Dec 10 at the Harbor Theatre, 720 Main St, Suisun City.
