James Bond back, better than ever

The James Bond film franchise celebrates the 50th anniversary of Bond films with the opening of the Bond blockbuster, “Skyfall,” rated PG-13.

Daniel Craig once again portrays the dashing 007, this time pitted against his arch-enemy, played by Javier Bardem. When M’s (Judi Dench’s) past returns to haunt her, Bond’s loyalty is tested as MI6 comes under attack.

This movie is also being shown in IMAX

Opening in limited release are:

“Christmas in Compton,” rated PG-13, features Keith David as Big Earl, the owner of a Christmas tree lot in Compton. Trouble erupts the week before Christmas when his son, Derrick (Omar Gooding), tries to prove his worth to his father.

“Chasing Ice,” rated PG-13, is a documentary by acclaimed National Geographic photographer James Balog that discovers undeniable evidence of our changing planet due to climate change.

“In their Skin” is a suspense thriller featuring Selma Blair, Joshua Close, James D’Arcy and Rachel Miner. After the death of their young daughter, the Hughes family escapes to a vacation home in the woods, only to find themselves in a struggle for survival. This film is not yet rated.

In the latest film starring Johnny Knoxville, “Nature Calls,” also starring Patton Oswalt, Rob Riggle and Maura Tierney, centers on a rivalry between brothers and a group of sheltered children who turn in to a Scouting group to be reckoned with. It’s rated R.

“A Royal Affair” is an 18th century historical drama that follows the love triangle between a German doctor, the queen of Denmark and her deranged king. The film, rated R, is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, screenwriter of “The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo,” and features Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander.

“Dangerous Liaisons” is a Chinese adaptation of the French novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” and features Ziyi Zhang, Dong-gun Jang, Cecilia Cheung and Lisa Lu. In Chinese with English subtitles. This movie is not rated.

“Coming Up Roses” is a haunting mother-daughter coming-of-age story featuring Bernadette Peters. It also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Peter Friedman and Reyna de Courcy. This file is not rated.
